URA’s new master plan formalized after reviewing proposals

The officialisation of the urban masterplan, which will guide Singapore in its development for 10 to 15 more years, was made on Wednesday.

In its statement released on the day, the Urban Redevelopment Authority said the former Bukit timah and Railway Station Staff Quarters were also listed for conservation under the URA Master Plan 2019.

The gazette wraps up the review of URA’s Draft Master Plan 2019 (which was on display at its premises from the months of March to June).

Over 25,000 stakeholders and public members visited the URA exhibition during this period in order to learn more. Some 6,000 of these visitors also signed up on guided tours conducted by URA staff.

For a wider audience, regional plans have also been displayed from July through August at Waterway Point, Westgate, Junction 8, Our Tampines Hub, and Causeway Point.

URA says that it has been engaging stakeholders on its plans for several years. These include residents, local interest groups, professional institutions, grassroots leaders, and advisers.

URA has said that the feedback they have received from all stakeholders, through workshops, focus groups, discussions, briefings and exhibits, helped them to draft their plans.

The authority said in particular that stakeholder input from these sessions helped refine the initial plans for Kallang River Jurong Lake District Farrer Park Holland Plain and Lorong Chuan and shape our plans supporting the revitalization of Orchard Road.

The fine-tuned plans were later exhibited alongside the Draft Master Plan for 2019. “The early engagement of stakeholders allowed planners the opportunity to provide an update on the actions that were taken before the Draft Master Plan Exhibition 2019.”

URA confirmed that, where applicable, suggestions and feedback on the draft plans’ proposals were incorporated. These will be taken into account as the authority develops more detailed plans.
